Monday Feb 10th, 2025 (UTC Time)

In Olney it was Sunday, Feb 9th at about 1810CST, I had hooked up the IC-7300 with plans to watch some videos to learn more about the radio’s settings. On 28.4MHz, I immediately heard a crystal clear signal from N6ZA, Barry from just outside San Francisco, having a QSO with N6WDG, Roger, who lives just a few miles from Barry. I listened to Barry have a few more QSO’s with hams whose stations I couldn’t hear, and just before 10M died at my QTH for the night, I made a contact with N6ZA Barry at 1919CST (0119UTC on Mon, Feb 10th, 2025).

At 2345CST (0545UTC Mon), I found the BBC from Ascension Island on 9410 kHz, a first-heard on that freq for me. This station is transmitted with 125kW / Az 27° - distance from Olney, Illinois is 9177km / 5702mi.

Millington QSL Card from 1951

Another acquisition for my quirky radio-related collecting hobby (vintage QSL cards from places I’ve actually lived or visited at some point in real life).
This card is from 1951 in the place where I was born: the naval base in Millington, Tennessee.
The sender was operating from Milington, and the ham he sent the card to lived in North Carolina. The distance between these two stations was approximately 468 miles as the crow flies.
