Boulder County Marshall Fire Ham Radio Comms

Yesterday (Thursday, December 30th, 2021) the Marshall Fire swept through several communities in Boulder County. I have close ties to this part of Colorado, with family and friends living in the area. We used to live nearby ourselves; back then, I drove through the affected towns regularly.

I was keeping track of what was happening on 9News Live Feed on YouTube as well as the "Boulder County Sheriff and Fire" radio feed online. An interesting related ham radio feed I found to listen to was the "W0IA 146.7600 MHz Boulder County ARES Repeater" which was streaming comms from amateur radio operator volunteers helping to provide and coordinate communications for the various regional shelters that been set up in the surrounding communities. Always good to hear hams showing up to help out in these situations. This situation is tragic and catastrophic and my heart goes out to the tens of thousands of folks who are in temporary accommodations today and the hundreds who will find themselves displaced in the coming hours and days ahead.
